Changelog
Jul 20, 2023

Faster Meal Entry
As you create meals, Saltie now offers suggestions for foods you’re likely to add to the meal based on past use. This reduces the amount of time and effort needed to add a new meal.
Recipes as checklists
Recipes now use checkboxes instead of bullet points to denote ingredients - this allows you to check off ingredients as you assemble them.
Bug fixes
- Meal carb calculations happen on keyup instead of on change, so that you can save a meal while a particular food amount input field is still in focus.

Drag and Drop Improvements
Ingredients can now be re-ordered on mobile and desktop clients, either in the ingredients form dialog, or right on the food page.

Highlighting Allergens in Foods
- You can now add a list of ingredients you’re allergic or sensitive to on the Account Settings page. Saltie will use this to highlight ingredients in foods that you may be allergic to.
Glooko Integration
- Saltie now integrates with Glooko. This integration automatically imports your basal and bolus data from Glooko daily. Note that there currently is an issue between Insulet and Glooko which has meant that Glooko isn’t receiving all of the Omnipod 5 data. Glooko has acknoweldged this issue and says they are working to fix it. In the meantime, some basal and bolus data may be missing.

New Generic Food Library
- We’ve added a new “Generic” library of foods, so that a search for pantry staples like “ketchup” or “olive oil” return a reliable standard entry, so you don’t have to scan through hundreds of different but similar entries. The nutritional profiles of these foods are averages from dozens or even hundreds of existing branded entries.
Food Serving Sizes
- Almost all 400k food entries now include multiple serving sizes (beyond gram/ml measurements). Based on first-hand experience and user feedback we expect this to significantly improve the process of creating recipes.
Nutrition Trends UI Design
- The Nutrition Trends page design has been simplified to be less information-dense, and displays averages for each nutrient in a grid on desktop/tablet displays.
International Support
- Saltie now enables real-time updates from Dexcom users outside the US.
Nov 1, 2022
Barcode Scanning
- Using Mobile Safari’s “Scan Text” feature, you can now scan barcodes to search for food entries by UPC code.
UX Improvements
- We’ve decorated a few holidays with emojis on the Journal page.
- Ensure Journal page will only render after all data is loaded to prevent layout jitter during page load.
- Guard against double-clicking on all form submit buttons.
October 27, 2022
Duplication Improvements
- Activities can now be duplicated.
- Bug fix: when recipes are duplicated, their ingredients are now duplicated as well.
Real-time Dexcom Updates
- Saltie now pulls in Dexcom CGM data every 5 minutes, instead of twice daily.
October 4, 2022
Custom Activity
- Saltie now allows you to log custom activities like exercise, insulin injections, fingerstick readings, medication, illness, menstrual cycles, even arbitrary notes. These appear in chronological order along with your meals on the Journal page.
Redesigned Nutrition Trends Report
- The Nutrition Trends report has been visually redesigned to highlight averages instead of individual daily values.
New Meal Report Page
- A new “Meal Report” page has been added, which displays macronutrient composition and postprandial effect on blood glucose for each meal.
- Based on macronutrient composition of the meal, the Glucose chart now highlights anywhere from 2 to 5 hours beyond from meal time as a rough estimate of glycemic response time.
Food search improvements
- Added pagination to food search results.
- Added a
name:
food search operator, to display exact name matches.
Bug fixes
- Fixed a bug where search results would occasionally appear after selecting a food due to network latency.

Dataset & UX Improvements
- The entire USDA dataset has been merged into the food library. Going forward, a person can use all of the 400k food entries right away in meals without first needing to make a copy into their own food library.
- Many foods in the dataset now have multiple serving sizes. Before this update they only had a single measurement (most often it was in grams or mL).
mmol/L Support
- Added support for importing and displaying glucose log data in mmol/L in addition to mg/dL.
- If a person imports data in mmol/L and the account is configured to use mg/dL, or vice versa, a message will be shown prompting the person to use the correct unit.
September 9, 2022
Recipe Organization
- Recipe ingredients can now be organized into named sections, and re-ordered. Drag-and-drop re-ordering works better on desktop currently - mobile web support is coming soon.
Journal Page Filtering
- The Journal page can now be filtered down to only show meals that fall within 2 hours of the current time. This allows for easier viewing of recent meals that you’re likely to duplicate or modify.

Food Search Improvements
- The food search algorithm now supports using a dash (
-
) character to exclude results, for examplepotato -chip
.
Glucose Trends Improvements
- The 6 month and 1 year date ranges display monthly averages instead of weekly averages, which makes long-term trends easier to interpret.
- 3, 6 and 1 year date ranges display a 20th and 80th percentile range in addition to min and max ranges.
- Standard Deviation has been added to the list of metrics.
Food Library Dataset
- Several hundred additional verified foods have been added to the common food library, all with data sourced directly from packaging or the USDA.
July 8, 2022
USDA Data
- Saltie now includes the entire 400k food dataset from the USDA, so searching for brands, food items, or even UPC/barcodes will much more likely turn up what you’re looking for. We built an in-memory index of the entire dataset so that searches respond in milliseconds.
